THE FIFTH ELEMENT AND COMPETITION SKILLS BUILDING WORKSHOP
25th of June 2019
Time: 8:30am - 05:00pm
Location: Hall Pavilion, Gladstone Street, Hall, ACT
We kick off the workshop with a lecture and follow on with a full day working-workshop that is designed to accommodate up to 10 working teams and limited auditors. Jill Marie will give a presentation on The Fifth Element, that is analysing the Emotional Element created by the human and the impact it has on the search. Then the rest of the day, the working teams will work through a range of scenting puzzles. Jill Marie will analyse the team’s performances and give them suggestions on how to improve the teamwork. Each search will incorporate either real-time feedback or post-search de-briefing
Some of the greatest challenges faced by handlers and instructors is identifying, in real time, the effects the human is having on the search environment, through body movement, mental pressure and over-involvement of the search itself. Jill Marie will integrate personal experiences, video review, group discussion and work with participating dogs (as appropriate) to help attendees identify in real time how the human element can become “The Fifth Element” for the dog.
Throughout the day, we will build a better understanding of how humans alter the “emotional” as well as the physical environment in ways that can help or hinder the dog’s performance. We will work to increase handler awareness of their influence on the search dog as well as for building solid teamwork with their canine partner.
To address the human influence on the search environment, the dog and search outcomes. We will focus on the emotional and psychological environment created by the handler
To increase handler awareness about the effect they have on the search dog in action Summary of Seminar – At the end of the day we will strive to have students leave with a better understanding of the whole search environment and to feel more confident in their role as “team manager”
Develop and improve teamwork between handler and dog; and
Identify inconsistencies in performance in the working teams.
In addition, we want attendees to take away tools that enhance each training opportunity and at a minimum leave with a few key ideas to make the game of K9 Nose Work even more rewarding for them as well as their dogs.
Working teams (sold out):
The dog must be on Birch target odour;
